David Mckay


David McKay has been with MHBC since 1997.  He obtained a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Science in Planning from the University of Toronto in 2007. David is a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and a Registered Professional Planner in Ontario.

David has provided a variety of planning services for public and private sector clients, with a range of projects including the planning of commercial, residential and industrial developments. David has considerable commercial experience having obtained approvals for over 35 million square feet of retail and office space in Ontario over the past 20 years. David's retail projects including individual stores, mall redevelopments, and power centres.  David has also assisted clients on a variety of industrial and employment land matters on both policy and development related matters.    David is very experienced in mixed use / high density residential development, having obtained approvals for thousands of units throughout the GTA.  He has also provided professional advice to the public sector, including work for the City of Hamilton, City of Sudbury, Ontario Realty Corporation, Build Toronto, and City of Regina.    David has extensive experience in presenting professional land use evidence at the Ontario Municipal Board and the Toronto Local Appeal Tribunal.

David is actively involved in the planning profession.  David is currently the Chair of OPPI’s Professional Standards and Registration Committee; and  Vice President and Program Chair with the Simcoe Chapter of Lambda Alpha International; and is the recent Past Chair of the University of Toronto Planning Alumni Committee.   David's work has been recognized by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, receiving an Award of Professional Merit in 1998 for a Demographic Study for the Region of Waterloo. David also received an OPPI Membership Service Award in 2003.   David is also the recipient of the 2017 University of Toronto Association of Geography Alumni Fenton Chin Outstanding Service Award and the 2011 Outstanding Service Award, University of Toronto Association of Geography Alumni.
