MHBC worked with 180 Danforth Inc., and the City of Toronto to transform the former Ralph Day Funeral Home site and an old existing gas station to create a gateway into the Danforth Community.  Concerned with the idea of using a retail store as a focal point and gateway into the Danforth Community, the City of Toronto challenged 180 Danforth Inc., and Shoppers Drug Mart to design a retail use that would help strengthen and revitalize the area.

Utilizing heritage aspects of the former funeral home, the project team was able to transform the store into a unique blend of old and contemporary building design through a combination of brick, and glass and restoration treatments through out the building and in particular along the Danforth Avenue facade.

Not only has this Shoppers Drug Mart store maintained certain characteristics of the surrounding neighbourhood through design elements such as traditional red brick, but it has also managed to incorporate a more modernistic design approach which has become a popular trend in the Danforth Community within the last few years.
