GEORGIAN BAY, ON

TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BAY

ZONING BY-LAW REVIEW

2012-2014

MHBC Planning was retained to complete a Zoning By-law Review for the Township of Georgian Bay. The Township of Georgian Bay is comprised of the coastal areas of Georgian Bay from Port Severn to Wah Wah Tay See; a number of inland lakes; and, the urban areas of Port Severn and Mactier. The Zoning By-law review established unique zone standards for the various shoreline communities to regulate shoreline structures, and contain various requirements to protect the natural character of the area.

The By-law also consolidated more than 200 zone exceptions that have occured since the Townships previous Zoning By-law came into effect in 1991. The Zoning By-law Review contained a detailed public engagement strategy that included a survey, consultation with Commuinity Associations, Public Open Houses in both the Township and in Toronto as well as Public Meetings. Attendance at the meetings ranged from 50-100 people. The Zoning By-law was unanimously passed by council in November 2014.
